2023: PDP Denies Postponing Campaign To Appease Wike

The PDP has denied postponing its presidential campaign to appease Wike.

Eko Hot Blog reports that Dele Momodu, Director of Strategic Communications for the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has denied that the party has postponed its presidential campaign to appease Rivers State Governor, Nyesome Wike.

Momodu was reacting to reports in some national newspapers that the PDP postponed its campaign to “placate” Wike.

A newspaper reported that presidential rallies were slated to take place on Wednesday (yesterday) and Thursday but were put on hold.

It quoted “unconfirmed sources” as saying the party was halting the rallies to return to the negotiation table with the Rivers governor.

Wike and four governors in his camp had shunned the PDP presidential campaign flag-off in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on Monday.

Observers connected their absence to their call for the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign. They argue that it’s unfair that a northerner leads the party and another is the presidential candidate (Atiku Abubakar).

In a tweet via Momodu’s Twitter handle on Wednesday, he described reports that the PDP postponed its campaigns to appease Wike as an “absolute falsehood.”

He hinted that the party’s next presidential campaign will hold in Kaduna State.

“Absolute falsehood… Unlike APC that is yet to get its act together, our ATIKU/OKOWA PDP Presidential campaign has taken off at supersonic speed… See you soon in Kaduna by God’s grace,” the campaign spokesman tweeted.
