The US administration under President Donald Trump claimed it had alerted Qatari authorities before the incident, a claim that Qatar strongly denied.

The attack, which occurred in the Qatari capital, killed five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer, but key members of the Palestinian group’s negotiating team survived.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that the US military had informed the Trump administration ahead of the Israeli strike, which was aimed at Hamas operatives “unfortunately located” in Doha.

“The president was briefed that Israel was carrying out a strike on Hamas targets in Qatar’s capital. Although Israel’s actions are not coordinated with us, eliminating Hamas remains a legitimate objective,” Leavitt said.

She added that President Trump instructed his envoy, Steve Witkoff, to alert Qatari officials about the strike.

However, Qatari authorities firmly rejected the US version of events. Majed al-Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Israeli attack occurred without prior warning, and that the first contact from the US came during the explosions.

“The idea that we were informed before the attack is completely untrue,” al-Ansari stated on social media.

“Our officials were only contacted after the bombs had already hit.”

Qatar’s Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, described the incident as “an act of state terrorism” and expressed outrage over the loss of life.

Trump later addressed the incident on his Truth Social account, saying he regretted the location of the strike and stressed it was a decision made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“I feel very badly about where the attack took place,” Trump wrote. “I assured Qatar it would not happen again. We tried to warn them, but it was sadly too late.”
