The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) will hold a National Executive Council meeting today to decide on a possible nationwide strike.
The association had previously given a 10-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, warning that its members would stop working if the government did not meet their demands, Eko Hot Blog reports.

The strike threat comes amid mounting pressure on Nigeria’s public health system, which already suffers from a severe shortage of doctors, poor infrastructure, and overcrowded hospitals.

Resident doctors, who make up the majority of the medical workforce, have demanded immediate payment of the outstanding 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund and five months’ worth of salary arrears from the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) review.
They also want the government to pay the 2024 accoutrement allowance arrears and other long-standing allowances.
NARD President, Dr. Tope Osundara, confirmed that the outcome of today’s meeting will determine their next step. He said that the council would review any progress the government has made.
If the government has not made a positive response, the council will likely take a firm stance, which includes the possibility of industrial action.
