5 Things You Must Know About The Newly Elected 7th CAF President

  • Patrice Tlhopane Motsepe has been elected as the new President of Confederation of African Football (CAF) .
  • The Africa Football body confirmed the South African during the 43rd Ordinary General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco on Friday.
  • As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG  , the following are the five things you must know about the newly elected CAF President.

(1.) Motsepe, 59,  was confirmed as the CAF head unopposed after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the ban of his supposed rival Ahmad Ahmad, while reducing the suspension to two years.

(2.) Prior to the election, Motsepe who became the 7th CAF President and first South African  to win the election has no experience in Football administration unlike the former president.

Motsepe experience within the sport is limited to Sundowns, the Pretoria-based football club which he bought in 2003.

(3.) As at August last year, the South African Billionaire networth was about US$ 2.1 Billion, thus he became the ninth richest man in Africa.

(4.) Patrice Motsepe is a South African billionaire of Tswana descent, the founder and executive chairman of African Rainbow Minerals with interest in gold, ferrous metals, base metals, and platinum.

(5.) Motsepe became the richest man in South African history in 2012, he ranked as number in the Sunday Times’ annual Rich List with an estimated fortune of R20.07 billion ($1 billion).

The Memelodi Sundowns owner acquired the bulk of his $3.2 billionaire in mining business and he’s also the brother-in-law of South South African president Cyril Ramaphosa.
