Wanted militia leader, Terwase Akwaza a.k.a Gana was reportedly killed in the evening of Tuesday September 8.
Commander of the Four Special Forces command, Doma local government area, Brigadier General Maude Ali Gadzama said the militia leader was killed in a firefight with military personnel.
Gadzama revealed Gana was killed this evening in a firefight with military personnel.
However, the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, said soldiers snatched Gana from a government convoy of repentant militants in Gboko.
According to Ali, the army has recorded another breakthrough in their efforts to rid the country of the activities of bandits, terrorists, and other criminal elements.
He said: “At about 12:00 hours today (Tuesday), we received strategic information on the movement of the dreaded bandit Terwase Akwaza Agbadu AKA Gana along Gbese-Gboko-Makurdi road. “Troops of Operation ‘Ayem Akpatuma III’ moved swiftly and mounted snap roadblocks along the routes.
“At about 13:00 hours, there was a meeting engagement with the convoy of Gana, a shoot out ensued and the bandit was killed.” The Commander also said that 40 armed members of Gana’s gang were captured during the operation. He said the captured gang members were in Army custody and would be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution.
Ali also disclosed that several rifles, pump-action guns, ammunition, charms, and explosives among other items were recovered from the gang.
He said Gana’s corpse had been deposited in an undisclosed hospital mortuary
The deceased who was accused of killing several innocent persons, had a N10 million naira bounty on him.
Earlier on Tuesday, Gana, along with 172 militia boys, had reportedly surrendered amid traditional rulers, priests, and local government officials in Katsina-Ala local government in Benue.
They were on their way to Makurdi when they were intercepted by military officials, Ortom said.
In 2015, Gana was offered an amnesty but returned to his alleged criminal activities.
In 2017, the Nigerian police declared Gana wanted after he was alleged to have killed “several innocent persons”.
The Benue State Government, at the time, placed a N10 million naira bounty on him.
In an exclusive interview with Channels Television in 2016, Gana had denied any involvement in the killing of Mr. Denen Igbana, a security aide to Governor Samuel Ortom.
