The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Lagos East senatorial district by-election, Tokunbo Abiru, says the experience he garnered while working as top executive in the banking sector puts him ahead of other contestants eyeing the senatorial seat.

Abiru spoke when he paid homage to Lagos council of Obas and traditional rulers of Ijebu extraction in Lagos
Abiru visit to the monarchs also coincided with monthly meeting of Royal heads, which held at the prestigious Royal Palace of Aladeshonyin of Odo-Noforija Kingdom, Epe Division, on Monday, September 14. The meeting was graced by crème de la crème of Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

The Monarch’s convergence was also aimed at promoting unity among Obas in Lagos state who are of Ijebu extraction
The serene and calm environment was jolted to life as it erupted in cheers from jubilant spectators, party leaders, friends, associates, well-wishers and ever dogged APC party supporters outside the Royal palace when Tokunbo Abiru arrived.
Speaking with Ekohotblog, Abiru promised to use his wealth of experience and track record in the corporate world and public service to make legislations that will have far-reaching impacts on the good people of Lagos East.

He said, “You know it is all about leadership. And for me, I’ve put in almost about 30 years of career in the private sector and I have risen up to the topmost level in the private sector ending up as Managing Director of Polaris Bank, I have been in charge of lives of over 8,000 staff and I have saved the bank from collapse. Having gone through that especially conservative banks of this country, I am glad to work at Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) where I spent the early years of my career, 1999-2000 and with First Bank with almost 15 years from 2002 to 2016. That should ordinarily give direction to the kind of skills and competences in my capacity as a leader. So for me, those are the qualities that will stand me out in making quality representation for the good people of Lagos East senatorial district, Lagos state as a whole and Nigeria in general.

The Senator hopeful shed more lights on how he would form a strong and robust collaboration with traditional institutions to bring about an harmonious, inclusive and result-oriented relationship.
“What you see today is also a demonstration of the quality and the pedigree that I bring to this assignment. You know, it involves consultation and getting people involved. So what you see today is just the beginning, a consultation that would be even during my tenure as the leader and the only way a leader can thrive is when you consult with your people. so, that is the demonstration of what you have seen here today”, he said

He was accompanied by Hon. Wale Raji, Member representing Epe at the House of Representatives, Hon. Olusegun Olulade (Eleniyan), Hon. Ogunkelu Oluwadahunsi Sketel, Member Lagos State House of Assembly Epe Constituency II and Chairmen of Epe, Eredo and Ikosi-Ejinrin Local governments and LCDAs.
