LASG Says Entrepreneurship Is Vital To Economic Development

  • Lagos State Government has disclosed entrepreneurship is key to economic development in the post COVID-19 era.

  • This was disclosed by the Hon Commissioner For Wealth Creation And Employment, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke.

The Lagos State Government has declared that the role of entrepreneurship as a key driver for economic development in the post-COVID-19 era cannot be overemphasised.

The Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke disclosed this while speaking at a Mentorship Webinar organised by the Ministry for unemployed and underemployed youths in the State with the theme: “Entrepreneurship: The Missing Link in Post-COVID Era”,

She explained that the webinar was aimed at broadening the minds of the youths in exploring the myriad of opportunities available despite the enormous challenges, brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, confronting Nations across the globe, while exploring the missing link in entrepreneurship development in order to proffer an ideal solution.

Arobieke opined that forces such as technological disruption, fluctuation economies and demographic changes have raised new opportunities and threats for organisations, as well as equally transforming societies all over the world.

She noted that identifying the missing link in entrepreneurship development at this period will enhance the efforts of the government in wealth and employment creation for the youths.

The Commissioner informed participants that there has been an increase in the curricula and programmes devoted to entrepreneurship and new ventures in Colleges and Universities globally because entrepreneurship has been recognised as one of the potent economic forces in recent times.

In her words, “The motivating factor for the establishment of any business is the abundance of opportunities available therein, which include expression of creativity, higher self-esteem and greater control of one’s life. I will want to urge the youths to leverage the present economic situation to create sustainable wealth”.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas, also enjoined participants to utilise the information acquired at the seminar to chart a new course for their lives.

One of the resource persons during the online seminar, Mrs. Omowale Ogunrinde said the missing link in entrepreneurship development is the capability to encourage, equip and empower people with relevant entrepreneurial skills to conceptualise innovative products and services in order to make the Nation a better place.

She, therefore, encouraged participants to kill their fear while being observant in developing trends and strategies to launch out.
