“There Can’t Be Success in Sports Without Education” – Segun Osinaike

Principal of Ogunmodede Senior High School, Epe, Prince Segun Osinaike, has stressed the importance of education in having a remarkable and successful sporting career among young people.

In an exclusive interview with Ekohotblog, Osinaike said sport and education are not mutually exclusive and one should not suffer from dearth of focus in order to achieve significant success in the other.

Osinaike has been sport administrator across Epe Division for several decades and recently won Personality of the Year Award at the recently organised Epe Division Community Annual Awards (EDCAA) by Concerned Nation Builders Initiative (CNI).

He said the importance of sport cannot be overemphasised, adding that it is one of human endeavours that must be constantly involved in as it has a lot of health benefits.

“Sports and exercises are areas that you can not do without from early childhood till death. You need Sports for the effective performance of the cardiovascular system of the body. Sports increases the life span of individuals.

“More importantly, Sports is a universal language that everybody should speak. Someone like me sleeps, eats and drinks Sports.

“In the School, you will realise that the Students are performing exceptionally in Sports. Most of the Competitions organized last year was won by Ogunmodede Senior College.

“So, my philosophy is that Education and Sports should go pari passu. There can not be any achievement in Sports without Education. I must confess that if you are to become anything, you must ensure that you merge or combine Education and Sports “, he averred.

He, however, noted that Sports isn’t meant for youth and adults alone but also the aged and veterans who have meritoriously served the country in various capacities. He averred that these categories of people in society need Sports for their physical, mental and emotional fitness.
