The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has made a dismal forecast for 2021 concerning COVID-19 in the country.
Ekohotblog reports that Nigeria is currently battling resurgence of COVID-19 which the country has now plunge into its second wave.
The NCDC Director General, Chinwe Ihekweazu, said things might get worse in 2021 before they get better
In a post on his official twitter page, Ihekweazu, disclosed that Nigeria recorded the highest weekly cases of COVID-19 last week.
He bemoaned the widespread disregard for health advisories and COVID-19 protocols despite the surge in cases of the infection in recent weeks.
He implored the citizens to protect themselves, he also admonished them to be moderate and responsible in their celebrations during the yuletide season.
He said “Last week, we recorded the highest weekly number of COVID-19 cases
“Despite increasing cases, there is disregard for public health & safety measures
“If we don’t protect ourselves now, we may have a worse situation in 2021. Celebrate responsibly.”

On Tuesday, Nigeria recorded 749 new cases of coronavirus.
This brings the number of confirmed cases in the country to 71, 937.
