Messi Got 2-match Ban For The Red Card At Supercopa On Sunday

Lionel Messi the Barcelona giant  got himself a red card in the final minutes of the extra time for swinging his arm at Athletic Bilbao’s Asier Villalibre.

The Referee was alerted to the incident between the two players by VAR after he watched the replay on the monitor situated at the pitch side, he decided to give Messi a red card.

As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG, the Committee of Royal Spanish Football Federations met yesterday Tuesday January 19, to decide to give their verdict. Messi was placed on football ban for their two consecutive matches.

Messi won’t be playing in their Thursday match at Third division Cornella in the Copa del Rey and also on Sunday in a La liga game in Elche. If Barca should win Cornella he will be joining in the round-of-16 game in the Copa del Rey next week.

He will also be available for the league match at their home base in Camp Nou Against Athletico who defeated Barca On Sunday, come January 31st.

Messi had only been sent off three times in his professional career as a footballer and only once in club level. He bagged his first red card in a league game for Barcelona against Pena sport in 2005.
