Sadiat Erogbogbo, the mother to the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has died at 90.

EKO HOT BLOG also confirmed the news via a telephone call to Abike Dabiri’s elder brother, Yomi Erogbogbo.

Meanwhile President Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has commiserated with Dabiri-Erewa and her siblings and prayed to God to comfort them.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari condoles with Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria Diaspora Commission, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on the loss of her mother, Alhaja Sadiat Abeke Erogbogbo, a retired teacher and businesswoman, aged 90.

“The President equally sends words of comfort to the other children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of the departed, who was known as ‘Kind Teacher’ in the early part of her professional life.

“President Buhari prays that the soul of Mama Erogbogbo will rest well, and that God will comfort all those she left behind.”

The former Lawmaker’s mother turned 90 precisely 7 months ago, and was celebrated by President Buhari himself, who described her as “the kind teacher”.

The president’s message read:

“President Buhari salutes Mama Erogbogbo, who is mother to Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and wishes her sound mind and good health, even as she is celebrated at 90 by all those whose lives she had touched positively”.

She is survived by seven children, all of whom are well to do. Alhaja Kofo Kazeem is her first child and daughter, an accountant; Alhaji Abayomi Erogbogbo is second and a competent Information Technology Systems Consultant. The others include Taofiq Rotimi, Joke Gbeleyi, Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Moji Williams, and Shola Erogbogbo.

The late Erogbogbo was born in Kano, educated in Lagos, and later taught in Kano, Lagos and Jos.

She is best remembered for her unyielding commitment towards grooming her legions of students and will be held with the highest regard by all those who worked under and alongside her during the course of a distinguished career in civil service.
