In a statement approved by Pope Francis, the Catholic Vatican stated that the Church does not bless same-sex unions, contrary to current beliefs about the Catholic Church’s position on LGBTQ issues.
“The blessing of homosexual unions cannot be considered licit,” the Vatican’s highest doctrinal office, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, says.
“God does not and cannot bless sin,” the Vatican statement said, adding that “it is also not licit to confer a blessing on relationships or partnerships that include sexual intercourse outside of marriage, just as it is not licit to confer a blessing on unions between persons of the same sex.”

This position, which would displease millions of gay and lesbian Catholics around the world, states that same-sex marriage is a personal decision, but it is immoral and cannot be accepted as objectively ordered.
It’s disappointing because the LGBTQ community had assumed that when Pope Francis said, “Homosexual people have a right to be in a family,” he was advocating for civil union laws for same-sex couples.
They are God’s children with a right to a home. Nobody should be shot or made sad because of it.
