Sokoto Man Bags 10-Year Jail Term For Posing As US Army General

  • The convict was sentenced for “attempting to defraud foreigners through Facebook while presenting himself as a United States Army General serving in war-torn Syria”.

Murtala Abdullateef, a scammer posing as a US Army General on Facebook, has been sentenced by Justice Malami Dogondaji of the Sokoto State High Court on Monday to 10 years in a correctional centre.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said in a statement that Abdullateef was prosecuted on a one-count charge.

The anti-graft agency noted that the convict was sentenced for “attempting to defraud foreigners through Facebook while presenting himself as a United States Army General serving in war-torn Syria”.
