  • Indications on Wednesday showed that Nigerians may now have partial access to Twitter.

EkohotBlog reports that checks indicated that as of Wednesday night, access to the platform had been restored through computer systems. Meanwhile, access through mobile phones remains unsuccessful.

FG, Twitter

The Federal Government of Nigeria suspended Twitter operations in the country on June 4th, 2021, few days after the microblogging platform deleted a tweet by the President, Muhammadu Buhari. The platform maintained that the deleted tweet of the President violated their rules and regulations.

International observers tagged the suspension as a retaliation of an unhappy man over his deleted tweets.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had cited ‘the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence as the reason for the suspension.

In the last couple of days, there has been suspicion by Nigerian media that both FG and the microblogging platform have found a common ground on their disagreement in principle for lifting off on the site.

However, when the President, Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria, Ikechukwu Nnamani was contacted, he said he was not aware of the lifting of the ban.
