Magodo Estate Brouhaha: Lagos State Govt. Has Lost The Case, So The Rule Of Law Must Be Executed

According to a report by Punch, an unnamed Chief Superintendent of Police on Tuesday openly defied the order of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to vacate the Magodo Phase 2 Estate area of the state. The CSP told the governor that he and his armed colleagues were at the estate on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba; as well as the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN). Sanwo-Olu had led members of his cabinet to visit the residents protesting the continuous presence of armed policemen in the estate.

From the video of the conversation, watch the video here. The CSP is very professional, people would wonder why the governor should be demanding that he disclose the number of men within the public. Why is the governor not talking to his boss? Could the governor be attracting media sympathy by playing the roles of journalists?

Nigerians were surprised that the governor was visiting the place without first talking to the commissioner of police in the state. As if he had no security reports of where he was visiting. Although both the Policeman and the Governor were very professional and mature in their approaches. It however underbelly the apparent helplessness of a typical Governor especially Southern Governors in the security architecture of Nigeria!.

Those drawing parallels with Wike are very myopic because unless we want to entrench anarchy, the constitution of this country did not empower State Governors to police their states and it’s a big disaster. The truth is that the Magodo people are lawless, obstructing the execution of a valid judgment of the Supreme court of the land in itself should send some of them to prison because they’re in contempt of court.

But because many live based on emotions, Nigerians will allow that emotion to override their reasoning. Instead of them going and settling, they keep on using media and peoples’ sentiments. They’re the same set of people who will be condemning the Government, saying of all forms of foul languages against the judiciary, saying judiciary are these, lawyers are that. Are they not lawless and reckless themselves?

Lagos State government has lost the case so the rule of law must be executed. For Years they had opportunities to find a lasting solution to this but refused. Kudos to the police officer for refusing to leave. Court has given judgment so Lagos state must obey it.
