EKO HOT BLOG reports that the leading opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that Nigerians are disturbed by “the dastardly action” instigated by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevent citizens, particularly people from the South East region living in Lagos State, from collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to enable them to vote in the 2023 general elections.
The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said in a statement that the APC’s alleged action in Lagos State is part of a desperate plan to sabotage free, fair, and credible elections in 2023 “having realized that Nigerians have rejected its Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the polls.”
The attempt by the APC to prevent Nigerians from obtaining their PVCs to vote in the elections; an action that portends serious threat and danger to our democratic process,” the PDP said. Asiwaju Tinubu has been in morbid fear of the soaring popularity of the PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
“Isn’t it ironic that the current government’s party, which claims to have the people’s support and promises continuity, is chasing away potential voters?”
“The APC is already suffering from Pre-Election Fever Syndrome, fearful of losing in a free, fair, credible, and transparent election in which Nigerians can freely express their will.”
This pattern is especially concerning because it is a resurgence of previous attempts in 2019, when APC leaders harassed Nigerians, particularly those in the South East, and threatened to throw them into the Lagoon if they voted for any other party than the APC. It should also be remembered that in the 2019 general elections, a similar act of violence was perpetrated on Nigerians in the Isolo axis of Lagos, where the APC, upon learning that it had been rejected at the polls, openly sponsored and unleashed terror on innocent citizens, destroying all votes cast.
