EKO HOT BLOG reports that Thierry Henry, the former Arsenal striker, has claimed that Liverpool is coming to the end of an era following their 5-2 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 on Tuesday.

Speaking on CBS Sport, Henry criticized Liverpool’s fragile defense and suggested that some players don’t have the level to play for the team anymore.

The Reds had taken a 2-0 lead through goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, but Real Madrid hit back with five goals to seal a comfortable victory. Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior both scored braces while Eder Militao headed home a bullet header.

Henry argued that while Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker made a mistake, his teammates didn’t bail him out, whereas when Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois made a mistake, his team was there to bail him out.

He also said that Liverpool’s team is now too fragile and some things need to change.

“I don’t think Jurgen Klopp needs to go, but some players don’t have the level anymore to play for Liverpool. It happens to the best, it happened to me. It’s the end of an era,” Henry said.

Liverpool’s defense has been a concern for some time, with the team struggling with injuries to key players. The loss to Real Madrid means they now face an uphill battle to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with the second leg scheduled for April 14 at Anfield.
