A resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “The ballot boxes were snatched and everybody ran away. Thugs are still hanging around the area.” The resident added that the violence erupted outside the Oba’s palace.
Popular tweep Samuel Otigba, who voted in the polling unit inside the palace, reported that the vote outside the palace was scattered by area boys who chased the presiding officer away and physically assaulted journalist Editi Effiong for recording the incident.

Videos shared on social media also showed thugs visiting different polling units to intimidate voters and tell them that they are not allowed to vote except for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate. The Oba Elegushi area was one of the locations where the threat was made.
However, the arrival of the military personnel at the Oba Elegushi area of Lagos state brought jubilation among residents who were previously not allowed to vote unless they supported the APC. The military personnel arrived in several cars after a video of the threat in Elegushi went viral.
