Following the declaration, disgruntled opposition parties, raised calls to have the elections cancelled due to irregularities in the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS). However, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, announced that Tinubu had satisfied the requirements of the law and was duly elected.
Yakubu explained that the commission would be presenting the Certificate of Return to Tinubu and Shettima at the International Collation Centre in Abuja, to allow the commission ample time to plan for the governorship election scheduled for March 11. While Tinubu and Shettima will be receiving their certificates, senators and House of Representatives members-elect will have to wait for a later announcement.
“The commission would issue a statement later today on when the ceremony for senators and House of Representatives members-elect would hold,” Yakubu stated.
The announcement of Tinubu’s victory has been met with mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some expressing optimism that his tenure would bring about positive change to the country, while others remain skeptical of his leadership style and political ideologies.
