1. Osinbajo unveils $600m funding for tech, creative sectors 

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, on Tuesday unveiled a $600m programme for young Nigerians in the technology and creative sectors.

The programme targets young Nigerians from ages 15-35 who are entrepreneurs and involved in the early stages of creative, innovative and technology-enabled ventures.

According to Osinbajo, Nigeria’s technology ecosystem accounts for almost 30 per cent of Africa’s funded ventures with no fewer than 180 startups.

He also urged African governments and the organised private sector to do more to support the growth of innovation in the continent.

2. Banks raise processing time for FX school fees, cut travel allowance to $2k

Some Nigerian commercial banks have announced that international school fees and upkeep requests through Form A will now be processed within 120 days (17 weeks).

The banks announced the development in emails sent to their customers on Tuesday.

The development comes amid the lingering forex scarcity in the country.

The PUNCH reports that Form A is an application form designed by the Central Bank of Nigeria to pay for service transactions (invisible trade) like foreign tuition, training courses and medical bills

3. Police affairs ministry to support Presidential Transition Council 

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs, Mr Abel Enitan has vowed that the management of the ministry is fully prepared to support the assignment of the Transition Technical Task Team of the Presidential Transition Council assigned to the ministry for the 2023 transition process.

The Head, Press and Public Relations Unit, Ministry of Police Affairs, Bolaji Kazeem, revealed this Tuesday night in a statement obtained by our correspondent.

Kazeem said Enitan gave the assurance during an interactive session with the TTTT of the 2023 PTC led by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Policy and Development, Dr Ibrahim Hassan, at the ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

4. Guber election: PDP hiring, arming thugs to cause mayhem – LP alleges 

THREE days to the governorship and House of Assembly elections, Labour party in Enugu State has accused the ruling PDP of recruiting scores of thugs and heavily arming them to unleash mayhem on Labour party members and supporters in the state, especially areas where the party has very strong with a view to scaring them away and rig the election.

The party said it has very credible intelligence regarding this plot which was escalated to security agencies who has been working on them. According to the party, the ruling party is using Chairmen to execute the plot.

The governorship candidate of the party in the State, Chijioke Edeoga who disclosed this at a press briefing in Enugu, said already the thugs recruited to operate in Isi-Uzo Council area have been arrested with their dangerous arms and now with the police. He also alleged that those hired to operate in Agbani Council area have also been apprehended.

Edeoga alleged that they were being armed with Pump Action guns official approved for the State Government for use by the operatives of Forest Guard, and urged the leadership of the security agencies in the state to have an audit of the arms procured for Forest Guards.

5. Murder of Councilor: Council boss, others protest against gunmen activities 

Following the gruesome murder of the Councilor representing Achara ward, in Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Hon Ogbonnaya Ugwu, (Spaco), by unknown gunmen on Saturday night, the Council boss of the affected LGA, Hon Consider Aja Chinonso, yesterday led other stakeholders to protest against the activities of gunmen and the killing of the Councilor in the Area.

Those in company of the Executive Chairman of Ohaozara LGA, were Ohaozara youths, Councilors, Development Centre, DC Coordinators, Ward Chairmen among others as they went to different locations, condemning the killing of the late Councilor, Hon, Ugwu Ogbonnaya ( Spaco)

The protesters, were seen in a peaceful manner as they marched through Court Area roundabout and some major streets of Mgbom, Mebiowa, Ameluagu, Eke junction and okposi Echara, while they prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed.

6. Polls: Arrest those threatening Igbo in parts of Nigeria, Ohanaeze tells FG 

THE apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, has called on the federal government and security agencies to arrest and prosecute those threatening and intimidating Igbo people living in various parts of the country, especially Lagos and Rivers states ahead of the March 18 governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.

National Vice President of the organisation, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, in a statement lamented the incessant harassment of Ndigbo and threat to their lives on the various social media platforms and streets of Lagos and Rivers states, as well as their places of abode, adding that the issue had taken a very dangerous dimension and would no longer  be tolerated .

He observed that since the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections, Igbo people in Lagos State particularly had suffered huge financial and material losses following mysterious fire outbreaks in  various markets allegedly instigated by political interest groups.
