BREAKING: Oyo Workers Block Secretariat Entrance, Demands Negotiation With Makinde

Eko Hot Blog reports that Oyo state workers have converged at the Agodi secretariat for a peaceful protest to seek for a direct negotiation with Governor Seyi Makinde over their deprivations.

According to the Guardian, the workers  were directed to resume at the state secretariat on Monday, July 31, 2023, by 7.00 a.m. to press home their demands from the state government.

The state’s Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Olatunbosun Olabiyi, who disclosed this  yesterday, said the directive was given during a joint general meeting of representatives of workers and pensioners in Oyo State chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and TUC held, yesterday, at the NLC House, Yidi, Ibadan, in preparation for the seven-day ultimatum issued by the NLC national headquarters.

“We are resuming at the Secretariat by 7.30 a.m. on Monday. All Oyo State workers are resuming there,” the TUC chairman said.

The meeting, which was presided over by Oyo State Chairperson of the NLC, Kayode Martins and his TUC counterpart, Olabiyi, had in attendance representatives of pro-labour organisations.
The labour leaders said the workers and residents needed urgent palliatives to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy.
