Commuters Groan As Railway Corporation Suspends Ijoko Rail Services

In order to fast track construction of the on-going standard gauge at set time, the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended operation of its daily narrow gauge from Ijoko  on Monday 30th of October to 16th of November.

The effect of the suspension of the train operation is said to have taken a bad toll on road users along the route. Traffic starts building up from about 4pm during the week.

Commuters are at the moment experiencing longer travelling hours and increase in transport fare. Residents of Alimosho Local government area, one of the high density area in Lagos state are the most affected by the development.

Some of them express their discomfort to Eko Blogg  on how they are forced to leave their homes everyday as early as 4am to arrive at their various places of business in good time.

They complained that transportation get worse on rainy days when they will have to pay double the already increased fare because of bad roads which of course reduce numbers of commuter buses available.

The commuters therefore, call on government to speed up work on the railways and fix the bad roads and also to include their route in the new mass transit (BRT) to ease transportation difficulties.

Meanwhile Federal Road Management Agency (FERMA) South-West coordinator confirmed today  that work will commence on comprehensive road repairs on Agege motor road to Lagos Abeokuta express road on Thursday.
