Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has responded for the first time to claims of his Igbo paternity, stating that such insinuations only make him laugh.
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo addressed these claims during a meeting on Thursday with the leadership of the Ndigbo Amaka Progressive Market Association, an umbrella group for major markets in Lagos State.
The meeting took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State EKO HOT BLOG reports.

Obasanjo dismissed the rumors suggesting he was born to an Igbo father from Anambra State, remarking simply, “It just makes me laugh.”
During the meeting, Obasanjo expressed support for the establishment of the Owerri Central Market, a project envisioned to be one of the finest markets in Nigeria. He noted that while the idea for the market has been around since Imo State was created, it has faced delays. However, he is optimistic about its realization and praised the governor for showing interest in the project. He expressed enthusiasm about potentially leading the marketing team for the new market.

Obasanjo also emphasized that no Nigerian should be excluded from any part of the country, asserting, “We own this country together.” He reflected on the unity efforts of the Yorubas, Igbos, and Hausas during Nigeria’s history and reiterated his stance against anyone being driven away.
In his remarks, Chief Emeka Emmanuel, the spokesperson for the group, highlighted the market’s potential as a center for innovation and entrepreneurship. He sought Obasanjo’s support for the market’s development and requested assistance for members to secure loans for purchasing shops and spaces.
