Declan Rice has issued an apology to his Arsenal teammates and the club’s fans after being sent off during Saturday’s lunchtime match against Brighton at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal were leading 1-0 following Kai Havertz’s first-half goal when Rice received a yellow card just four minutes into the second half.

The former West Ham captain was penalized for deliberately kicking the ball away after the referee awarded a free-kick to Brighton.

Brighton took advantage of their numerical superiority and equalized through Joao Pedro. Despite Brighton’s efforts to secure a win, Arsenal managed to hold on and earn a point.

“I think from my behalf, that’s my first sending off in my career, so I just wanted to apologise obviously to my teammates, which I’ve done, and to the fans,” Rice was quoted by Arsenal News Central.
