Chelsea Set To Leave Stamford Bridge For New Stadium

Chelsea are reportedly exploring a potential move from Stamford Bridge to a new stadium at Earl’s Court.

According to The Guardian, the club is in discussions with Transport for London (TfL), which manages the Earl’s Court site, about the feasibility of constructing a new stadium there. Chelsea has been based at Stamford Bridge for over a century. Despite its historic significance, the stadium’s capacity of just over 40,000 seats is among the lowest in the Premier League, and attempts to expand the current site have not succeeded.

The Earl’s Court site is estimated to be worth up to £500 million. Any transition would also need to address agreements with Chelsea Pitch Owners, who hold the freehold on Stamford Bridge, and consider the views of the club’s supporters.

As Chelsea navigates this project, internal tensions between co-owners Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly may further complicate the negotiations and planning.
