Bundesliga: Boniface Explains Unusual Goal Celebration After Scoring Brace For Leverkusen

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has revealed that his unconventional goal celebration against Hoffenheim was inspired by a Nigerian TikTok influencer.

Boniface scored twice to help Bayer Leverkusen secure a 4-1 victory over Hoffenheim in Saturday’s Bundesliga match. His celebration, which involved pulling down his shorts, quickly grabbed attention.

Boniface explained that the celebration was influenced by a popular TikTok trend in Nigeria.

He clarified, “I don’t want to provoke anyone with it. I only did it in front of our own fans,” Boniface told Sky Germany via WELT.

“It’s a TikTok trend from a Nigerian influencer, and he’s a big influencer. He choreographed the dance and asked me if I could do it. I told him: no problem.

“I would have done it in the first two games, but I hadn’t scored a goal yet. And when I did score, it was time to keep my promise.”

This isn’t the first time Boniface has made headlines for his celebrations. Just a few weeks ago, he received a match ban and a €25,000 fine for an offensive gesture during the German Super Cup match against Stuttgart.
