UCL: Duran’s Late Strike Helps Aston Villa Beat Bayern 1-0

Aston Villa replicated their iconic 1982 European Cup final triumph over Bayern Munich, as Jhon Duran’s late strike secured a 1-0 victory on Wednesday.

The Colombian forward capitalized on a long pass from Pau Torres, catching Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer off his line with a brilliant lob 11 minutes from time.

This win marked Villa’s second consecutive victory in their return to Champions League football after 41 years.

Despite Bayern’s unbeaten streak and high-scoring form under Vincent Kompany, Unai Emery’s tactical discipline frustrated the German side, limiting them to few chances at Villa Park.

Prince William joined over 40,000 fans as Villa continued their remarkable resurgence since Emery’s arrival, a journey that took them from the Championship just five years ago to now defeating a six-time European champion.

Bayern, who thrashed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 in their Champions League opener, struggled to break Villa’s defence.

Harry Kane’s offside header and Michael Olise’s near miss were Bayern’s closest attempts, but Emi Martinez was unbeatable between the posts.

Bayern introduced Jamal Musiala at halftime, who nearly found a breakthrough, but it was Villa’s super-sub Duran who stole the show.

The 20-year-old outmuscled Dayot Upamecano to score his fifth goal of the season from the bench.

Martinez sealed the win with two crucial late saves, including a last-gasp effort to deny Upamecano’s header, securing a memorable night for the Villa faithful.
