A two-storey building collapsed on Amusu Street in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State, sparking panic among residents.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, with nearby residents rushing to safety as the structure caved in. A video circulating online captured the moment the building crumbled.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), no casualties were recorded. Nosa Okunbor, the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, confirmed that the building collapsed at approximately 8:45 a.m.

“LASEMA Response Teams are on-site conducting search and rescue operations. Thankfully, no lives were lost, and there will be updates as the situation progresses,” Okunbor said in a statement.

An official from LASEMA, who requested anonymity, told Punch that the building had been evacuated before the collapse. “The incident happened this morning, but fortunately, there were no casualties as the evacuation was completed in time,” the official said.

Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene, ensuring that the area was secured and further risks were mitigated.

This collapse is the latest in a series of structural failures in Lagos. In May, a four-storey building on Lagos Island collapsed, trapping several people. In July, a family narrowly escaped when their boys’ quarters collapsed behind a storey building in Iyana Ipaja.
