Northern Governors Donate N900m To Support Jigawa After Explosion

The Northern States Governors’ Forum, led by Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, has donated N50 million each to support the Jigawa State government following the petrol tanker explosion that claimed over 170 lives and left many injured.

Eighteen of the 19 northern governors, excluding Jigawa, collectively contributed N900 million to aid the victims and rebuild the affected community.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to a statement signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs for Gombe State, Ismaila Misilli, Governor Yahaya announced the donation during a visit to Jigawa, noting that each northern governor donated N50 million to support survivors, victims’ families, and the state government in managing the aftermath of the tragedy.

The delegation, which included Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and deputy governors from Borno, Katsina, Taraba, Kebbi, and Yobe, expressed solidarity with the people of Jigawa.

“This tragedy affects us all. We must support Jigawa State through these difficult times to rebuild lives and overcome this challenge,” Yahaya said.

He described the incident as one of the most tragic in recent memory, emphasizing the northern governors’ shared responsibility to stand with Jigawa. He lamented the loss of many young people who had the potential to contribute to nation-building.

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa expressed gratitude for the support, saying, “We deeply appreciate the visit and the generous contributions from the northern governors. Your compassion gives us strength and hope during this tragic moment.”

Namadi noted that the assistance would provide much-needed relief to survivors and the families of the victims.
