Zamfara Commissioner Abandons Post To Contest In LG Election

The Zamfara State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mua’zu Haidara Kaura, has resigned from his position to contest in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 16, 2024.

His decision follows the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission’s (ZASIEC) announcement of the election date, made by the newly appointed ZASIEC Chairman, Bala Aliyu Gusau.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the election process will see the sale and submission of interest forms between October 25 and November 1, 2024.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has already begun campaigning and will commence the sale of nomination forms for chairmanship and councillorship positions on October 25.

However, the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) has yet to confirm its participation, with the state chapter awaiting directives from the party’s national leadership, according to the APC state secretary, Ibrahim Umar Dangaladima.

This online media platform recalls that Gusau was sworn in by the state Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu, represented by Mukhtar Yusha’u, during a ceremony at the Government House in Gusau.

The election marks a significant political event for the state as the PDP ramps up efforts to maintain control, while the APC remains uncertain about its involvement.

Kaura’s resignation comes as part of the preparations for the election, positioning himself as a candidate, while political activities in the state gain momentum ahead of the November polls.
