Barcelona announced on Wednesday that their return to Camp Nou has been delayed until at least mid-February as the iconic stadium undergoes extensive modernization and expansion.
In a statement, the club confirmed that their La Liga home fixtures against Valencia on January 26 and Alaves on February 2 would be held at the temporary Montjuic Olympic Stadium.

The decision stems from UEFA rules prohibiting venue changes during the Champions League group stage and “logistical difficulties and additional costs” associated with maintaining two operational stadiums simultaneously.
The club hopes to play their next home match against Rayo Vallecano on February 16 at Camp Nou. Last month, Barcelona projected a return to the partially completed stadium by the end of 2024, with an initial capacity of 62,000.

The renovation, part of the ambitious “Espai Barca” project, aims to fully transform the stadium by the summer of 2026, increasing capacity to 105,000 and adding a roof. Work on Camp Nou began in June 2023 but encountered delays due to permit issues and complaints about working conditions.
As a precaution, Barcelona has requested an extension of their contract to use the Montjuic Olympic Stadium until March 31, 2025.
