The Chairman of the Edo State Committee on Recovering Government Vehicles, Mr. Kelly Okungbowa, announced on Friday that over 200 government vehicles are unaccounted for, with three already recovered within 24 hours of the committee’s inauguration.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that addressing journalists in Benin City, Okungbowa revealed that the recovered vehicles—found in a private residence—include a Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses. Disturbingly, one of the buses contained palliatives intended for distribution to Edo residents, such as bags of garri and rice.

“These vehicles and the palliatives are properties of Edo citizens, and it is unacceptable for them to be unlawfully held by private individuals,” Okungbowa stated.
He credited the swift recovery of the vehicles to actionable intelligence from members of the public and encouraged others to provide information. He assured whistleblowers of substantial rewards for verified tips, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to conducting its operations transparently and lawfully.
“Yesterday, we were inaugurated, and we pledged to fulfill Governor Monday Okpebholo’s mandate to recover all missing government vehicles.
“I am pleased to inform Edo citizens that within 24 hours, we have successfully recovered one Hilux and two Toyota Hiace buses from private custody,” Okungbowa said.

The chairman appealed to former government officials and other individuals in possession of state-owned vehicles to voluntarily return them within 48 hours to avoid legal action.
“We are determined to retrieve all stolen vehicles and ensure they are returned for the benefit of Edo citizens. These assets belong to the state, and their unlawful retention undermines public trust and development,” he added.
The committee, inaugurated by Governor Okpebholo, has pledged to deliver on its mandate while upholding transparency and safeguarding Edo State’s resources.
