The price of refilling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has shown significant fluctuations across Nigeria this week, with consumers facing varying costs of between ₦1,300 and ₦1,500 per kilogram.
This inconsistency is attributed to a combination of seasonal demand, transportation challenges, and global market influences.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that as the festive season approaches, there has been a noticeable surge in the demand for cooking gas, which has put upward pressure on prices.
Additionally, transportation costs have risen due to poor road conditions and increasing fuel prices, particularly affecting the northern regions of the country. These logistical challenges are contributing to the overall price hike.
Global LPG prices have also played a pivotal role in the domestic price changes.
Nigeria’s heavy reliance on imports for a substantial portion of its LPG supply has made the local market vulnerable to international price fluctuations.
As a result, the prices of cooking gas are closely tied to global trends, further exacerbating the situation.
Another critical factor influencing the cost is the depreciation of the naira against major international currencies.
This has made the importation of cooking gas more expensive, subsequently impacting retail prices across the country.
Consumers are now paying the following prices for refilling cooking gas:
1kg Cooking Gas – ₦1,300
3kg Cooking Gas – ₦3,900
5kg Cooking Gas – ₦6,500
6kg Cooking Gas – ₦7,800
10kg Cooking Gas – ₦13,000
12.5kg Cooking Gas – ₦16,250
Despite these fluctuations, experts predict that prices may continue to rise in the coming weeks, driven by both internal and external market pressures.

This uncertainty in the LPG market is expected to challenge Nigerian consumers, who are already grappling with high costs in other sectors.
