Five people have been killed in shootings in northern France, including near a migrant camp, and a 22-year-old man has surrendered to police, according to French media reports.
Four of the victims—two security guards and two migrants—were shot dead along the Loon-Plage coastline near Dunkirk, security sources told French outlets.

The suspect has reportedly also confessed to a separate shooting earlier in the nearby town of Wormhout, according to the AFP news agency. Weapons were reportedly found in his car.
Dunkirk’s Mayor, Patrice Vergriete, described the shootings as a “tragedy,” stating that “an individual coldly murdered several people.” However, the motive for the attacks remains unclear, he added.
Xavier Bertrand, president of the Hauts-de-France region, confirmed the deaths in what he called a “tragic event.”

A large emergency services presence was reported near a migrant camp, though it is not confirmed if the shootings occurred inside a settlement.
Loon-Plage is home to several temporary camps housing migrants near Calais and the Strait of Dover, a common staging ground for those attempting to cross the Channel to the UK in small boats.
