Eredo LCDA Starts Chairman’s Cup with Exciting First Match

Ekohotblog reports that Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), led by Hon. Ismail Akinloye, has started the first-ever Chairman’s Cup.

The Football competition organized and sponsored by the executive chairman of Eredo LCDA is aimed at uniting and engaging youth, promoting sportsmanship and uncover hidden talents in the community.

The opening match took place on December 18, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Grammar School, where Odogbawojo FC defeated Igbonla FC in an exciting penalty shootout.

The event drew a large crowd, including important guests like former Lagos State House of Assembly member for Epe Constituency II, Hon. Shakiru Adebanjo; Eredo LCDA Vice Chairman, Hon. Adesanya Lateef; and Leader of the Eredo LCDA House, Hon. Babatunde Bakre.

Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, Hon. Adesanya Lateef explained the purpose of the competition.

“This tournament is to engage our youth during the festive season and help them stay away from bad habits. It’s a great chance for them to show their skills,” he said.

Hon. Shakiru Adebanjo also praised the idea, calling it a smart way to keep young people focused.

“It’s better to involve youths in sports than let them wander and fall into crime. I am impressed with their dedication,” he added.

Mr. Owodina Babatunde, Head of Agriculture for Eredo LCDA, noted that the tournament could uncover hidden talents.

“This competition doesn’t just keep the youth busy. It can also connect talented players with scouts. The excitement we saw today shows it’s already working,” he said.

The tournament offers exciting prizes: ₦1 million for the winner, ₦500,000 for the second-place team, and ₦300,000 for third place.

Players will also compete for individual awards, like Best Player and Best Coach, along with team trophies and medals.

The first match was a thrilling game between Odogbawojo FC and Igbonla FC. Both teams scored one goal each during regular time.

The match ended with a tense penalty shootout, where Odogbawojo FC came out on top, bringing joy to their fans and setting a high standard for the rest of the tournament.
