Baseball Legend, Rickey Henderson Dies At 65

Rickey Henderson, the legendary Major League Baseball player known for his unmatched speed and unparalleled records, has passed away at the age of 65.

Widely celebrated as “The Man of Steal,” Henderson set enduring benchmarks in the sport with an astonishing 1,406 stolen bases and 2,295 runs scored during his illustrious career.

His achievements were highlighted by two World Series championships, first with the Oakland Athletics in 1989 and later with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993.

A 10-time All-Star and the recipient of the American League Most Valuable Player award in 1990, Henderson’s impact on the game was immortalized with his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.

“For multiple generations of baseball fans, Rickey Henderson was the gold standard of base stealing and lead off hitting,” said MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.

“He epitomised speed, power and entertainment in setting the tone at the top of the line-up.”

Henderson’s remarkable MLB career featured a .297 batting average, 297 home runs, and 1,115 RBIs, along with a record-setting 81 lead-off home runs.

Over the course of his career, which spanned from 1979 to 2003, Henderson played for nine different teams but remained most closely linked to the Oakland Athletics, where he enjoyed four separate stints.
