The Nigeria Police Force in Delta State has confirmed the arrest of Blessing Jonathan, a young mother accused of throwing her 10-month-old baby, Prevail, into a river.

According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, Jonathan initially reported her baby missing at a local police station. However, investigations revealed the truth.

“She was under immense pressure from people who called her child a bastard. After caring for her baby for 10 months, she couldn’t bear the ridicule and decided to throw him into the river, then reported him as missing,” Edafe explained.

The case took a turn when the baby’s body was found floating and brought to the police station, prompting Jonathan to confess.

Police Arrest

Speaking during her parade by the police, Blessing explained that she had been abandoned by the baby’s father, Ugo, and was left to care for the child alone. “I was overwhelmed by the judgment of others. They called my child a bastard, and I was alone in taking care of him. I regret everything. That baby was my first and only child,” she said.
