EPL: Isak Shines As Newcastle Beat 10-Man Aston Villa

Alexander Isak’s impressive scoring streak continued as Newcastle United defeated a 10-man Aston Villa to climb to fifth place in the Premier League table.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Magpies struck early, with Anthony Gordon netting a brilliant curled shot from just inside the penalty area after Sandro Tonali’s interception and Joelinton’s surging run in the opening 80 seconds.

Aston Villa’s hopes of a comeback were dealt a major blow in the 32nd minute when Jhon Duran received a straight red card for violent conduct. Referee Anthony Taylor determined that the Colombian striker had intentionally stamped on Fabian Schar’s back following a challenge, though Duran insisted it was accidental.

Isak, fresh from a hat-trick in Newcastle’s 4-0 win against Ipswich Town, doubled the lead early in the second half. He finished Jacob Murphy’s low cross from close range, bringing his tally to 11 Premier League goals this season and seven in the last six matches.

Joelinton wrapped up the victory in stoppage time, capitalizing on a loose pass from Villa’s Amadou Onana to curl home Newcastle’s third past Emiliano Martinez.

The win lifted Newcastle above both Villa and reigning champions Manchester City in the standings, while Villa slipped to ninth after suffering their fifth consecutive away league defeat.
