Ezekwesili Blasts Tinubu, IG for Failing to Address Root Causes of Food Stampedes

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has criticized the Nigerian government for its response to the stampedes across the country, accusing officials of being out of touch with the realities faced by everyday Nigerians.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a post on X, Ezekwesili expressed frustration with the outrage directed at philanthropic individuals and organizations involved in food distribution efforts that led to the tragic stampedes.

She questioned why government officials have failed to recognize how their own leadership failures have turned simple charitable events into dangerous situations.

She also expressed her sympathy for the humanitarians who have been charged in connection with the incidents, urging the courts to act with fairness and understanding.

Her post read:

“Still on the food stampedes across the country. What is the self-righteous indignation from public officials and institutions towards those trying to help?

“Is it that the well-fed of our society fail to see that it is the generosity and social safety net provided by individuals and organizations that are keeping the poor going?

“Reading the statements from @officialABAT, the IG of @PoliceNG, @nassnigeria, and their many officials, it’s clear how detached they are from the reality of the people they serve.

“These officials are cocooned in luxury, blind to how desperate the times are for Nigerians who now risk their lives for basic necessities like bread.

“Do they not understand that the number of people in need has grown exponentially, placing overwhelming pressure on those trying to help?

“Humility and empathy are sorely lacking among our public officials, but please stop attacking those who were trying to fill the gap created by your own failures.
