Gunmen attacked Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State on Monday, killing seven people, including two unarmed civilians and five security operatives.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. while preparations were underway for a burial slated for January 2, 2025. A viral video on social media shows the bodies of two members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) killed during the attack. 
The state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident. He stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has launched a manhunt for the attackers and visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

Ikenga revealed that the assailants fired sporadically at the burial venue before killing two security operatives at a post near the Local Government Headquarters. One victim was rescued and is receiving treatment in a hospital.
The CP extended condolences to the families of the victims and assured the public that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
