EKO HOT BLOG reports that early detection is key, as untreated diabetes can lead to life-threatening complications such as kidney failure, blindness, and heart disease. Here are seven early warning signs of diabetes you should never ignore.
1. Frequent Urination
One of the first noticeable signs of diabetes is an increased urge to urinate, especially at night. This occurs because excess glucose in the blood forces the kidneys to work harder to remove it.
2. Excessive Thirst
Constant urination leads to dehydration, making you feel unusually thirsty. If you find yourself drinking water more than usual and still not feeling satisfied, it could be a red flag.
3. Unexplained Weight Loss
Despite eating normally—or even more than usual—sudden weight loss can signal diabetes. This happens when the body cannot properly use glucose for energy and starts breaking down fat and muscle instead.
4. Extreme Fatigue
When cells cannot absorb glucose due to insulin resistance or deficiency, your body lacks energy. This leaves you feeling weak, drained, and tired most of the time.
5. Blurred Vision
High blood sugar can cause swelling in the eye lenses, leading to temporary blurred vision. If left unchecked, this can progress to permanent eye damage.
6. Slow-Healing Wounds and Frequent Infections
Diabetes weakens the immune system and reduces blood circulation, slowing down the healing of cuts, bruises, and sores. Frequent skin, gum, or urinary tract infections are also common warning signs.
7. Tingling or Numbness in Hands and Feet
Nerve damage, known as diabetic neuropathy, often starts with tingling, burning, or numbness in the extremities. This symptom should not be ignored, as it indicates advancing nerve complications.
