Prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have insisted that the office of the party’s National Chairman must remain in the North-Central region.

The leaders, under the platform of Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, met on Monday night in Abuja and issued a communique after their deliberations. They also demanded fresh congresses in Ebonyi, Anambra, and Ekiti states, citing unresolved disputes and court rulings.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that reading the communiqué, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom emphasized that fairness, inclusivity, and respect for judicial decisions must guide the PDP’s preparations ahead of its national convention.

“We, as concerned leaders of the PDP, met to review the state of our party and the issues ahead of the national convention. We remain committed to equity, justice, inclusivity, and the rule of law, principles on which the PDP was built and must continue to stand,” Ortom said.

The group stressed that unity within the party cannot be achieved through exclusion or disregard for valid court rulings. They urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to conduct fresh and credible congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra, as ordered by the courts, and to also organise a legitimate South-East zonal congress.

They further insisted that the outcome of the South-South congress, already recognised by the courts, must be respected, while Ekiti State’s pending local government congresses should be conducted without delay.

On zoning, the leaders backed the National Executive Committee’s recommendation to maintain the existing arrangement but firmly rejected any move to introduce micro-zoning.

“For peace and stability, the office of the National Chairman must remain in the North-Central in line with the 2021 convention’s zoning arrangement,” the statement declared.

The group warned that ignoring these resolutions could render the planned convention invalid and disenfranchise genuine members. They, however, pledged loyalty to the PDP while stressing the need for unity and justice ahead of the convention.
