EKO HOT BLOG reports that the court directed that the tests be carried out in accredited and recognised hospitals, both within Nigeria and abroad. Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga issued the order while ruling on an application filed by the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, who requested a paternity test.
In the suit, Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was listed as the respondent. The application was brought pursuant to Order 8 Rules 1 and 8 of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012, and Order 9 Rules 8 and 9 of the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.
Mr. Aloba’s application asked the court to direct the Chief Medical Officer or Chief Pathologist of the Military Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, where Mohbad’s remains are currently kept, to provide tissue, hair, or any other suitable sample from the deceased for DNA testing. He further requested that the test be conducted on Master Liam in either a government or private medical facility in Lagos, another agreed location in Nigeria, or an accredited hospital abroad.
The applicant argued that uncertainty remains over Liam’s paternity and that resolving the issue was essential for clarity on maintenance obligations and the child’s welfare. He stressed that the DNA test was necessary to avoid further delays or prejudice in the case.
At the hearing, Joseph Aloba was represented by Augustine Adegbemi from the law firm of Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co., while Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, was represented by lawyer Kabir Akingbolu. The application was moved without opposition from the respondent’s counsel.
Consequently, the magistrate granted the order and directed that two DNA tests be carried out — one in Nigeria and the other abroad — in accredited hospitals. The court further ruled that both parties or their representatives must be present during the sample collection.

The case was adjourned to November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
