In his statement on X, Obi said the wave of violence in Borno, Sokoto, Katsina, and Edo left over 100 people dead in just one weekend. He explained that the victims included soldiers, officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and many civilians.
The tragic incidents also involved the abduction of a Chinese national and the kidnapping of passengers along the Benin–Iyere–Oluku road. For Obi, these are no longer isolated cases but clear evidence of a national emergency.

LookPeter ObiHe declared that Nigeria must immediately launch a coordinated “war on insecurity,” mobilising every resource available. According to him, this means prioritising the safety of lives above political distractions and unnecessary foreign trips. He argued that leaders must remain at home during such a critical period, adding that “investors cannot come into a war zone.”
The Labour Party flag bearer also noted that Nigeria’s death toll in recent weeks is comparable to countries torn apart by armed conflict. He stressed that no nation can achieve stability or economic growth when its people are under constant attack.
Obi warned that if urgent action is not taken, Nigeria risks sliding into the chaos experienced by nations like Somalia and Libya. He reminded the government that its first duty is to protect citizens and ensure that the country is safe enough for both residents and investors.
Concluding his remarks, Obi urged the federal government and security agencies to act with urgency and courage. He emphasised that Nigeria must rise to the challenge now, before insecurity pushes the nation further into instability.
