The United Nations’ Economic Council for Africa has warned that at least 300, 000 people in Africa could die from CoVid-19.
Coronavirus cases in Africa have been on the rise since last week and UN officials now believe that the continent may be the next epicenter of the pandemic.
Africa had a slow growth rate of the virus with scientists initially wondering why the continent appeared immune to the Coronavirus. Some even suggested that maybe the heat in Africa had something to do with that but the continent has since since a steep rise in the number of cases with the casualty rate close to 1000 now.
The UN officials also believe that in addition to the continent potentially losing almost 300, 000 people to the Coronavirus, it can push over 30 million people into poverty, hence the need to provide an $100 billion safety net for the continent including a suspension of external debt repayments.
