A social commentator and political activist, Demola Rewaju, has called for the disbandment of the Nigeria Police Force.
He made the call following the viral video of a lady being beaten by men of the force for failing to obey the lockdown order.
The lady in question, Tola Azeez, said she was on her way to get medical supplies and some relief materials for the people before she was stopped and beaten by one Inspector Eku.
Reacting to the incident, Demola said that the police in Nigeria have over time developed an institutional inferiority complex from the days of the military – they were never fully civilian but never fully military; so they’re used to assaulting the only group they can – the bloody civilians.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) steward speaking through a series of tweets maintained that disbanding the Nigeria Police is the only way to end the constant harassment of citizens.
He said: “Dissolve the whole police, disband them and let people apply afresh.

“The insane ones among them outnumber the same ones and I can bet my last kobo that the sane ones in some spaces outside the public eye have done insane things to citizens.
“The police in Nigeria has over time developed an institutional inferiority complex from the days of the military – they were never fully civilian but never fully military; so they’re used to assaulting the only group they can – the bloody civilians.
“Military folks still had a sense of dignity – the uniform they wore is the same your Head of State Abacha or IBB and others wore – they didn’t need to prove any point to you as a civilian, they could easily take out any anger on the police – which they often did.
“But police? Lol, their inferiority complex from years of being harassed by even military wives has never left them and continually infects new entrants.
“These guys act like they have a permanent grudge and grouse against society.
“Disbanding the Nigeria Police is the only way.”
