The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has finally spoken on Madagascar’s organic drink reputed to be cure for coronavirus.
The West Africa’s socioeconomic body refuted claims that it had placed order for substantial amount of the organic drink, known as COVID-Organics (CVO).
The body debunked the claim In a statement by its Directorate of Communications
The commission stated that it could only support and approve products whose efficacy had been proven through scientific study.
Consequently, the body issued a disclaimer dissociating it and its health institution from the CVO medication.

The statement read: “We wish to disassociate ECOWAS and its health institution, West Africa Health Organisation (WAHO), from this claim and inform the general public that we have not ordered the said CVO medication.
“We are aware that several claims of COVID-19 cure have been made in different parts of the world, but we can only support and endorse products that have been shown to be effective through scientific study”
The body said it was liaising with other relevant international health bodies to enhance a scientific solution for the infection, adding that it was also working with members state on vaccines available for trials and use.
“For this reason, WAHO is collaborating with relevant partners including WHO, African CDC, and national, regional, and international research consortia to promote a scientific search for a cure.
“We are working with member-states on some of the medications available for clinical trials and for use on a compassionate basis in selected severe cases.
“Some of the traditional medicine centres of excellence in the ECOWAS region are also currently investigating products of potential efficacy.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday, advised people against ingesting untested remedies for coronavirus.
Madagascar’s president, Andry Rajoelina, has been promoting a herbal tonic for treating COVID-19 patients and several African countries, including Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea and Liberia, have already ordered the product.
