APC Deputy Women Leader Advocates for “Twinning Formula”

  • Reserve Deputy Positions for Women
  • Women’s Political Inclusion
  • The Policy Is A Simple Solution

The National Deputy Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajia Zainab Ibrahim, has called for her party to adopt a “twinning formula” to encourage more women to participate in politics.

According to Eko Hot Blog, Ibrahim made the appeal during a recent advocacy program in Abuja, where she described the formula as the quickest way to achieve women’s inclusion in politics.

Ibrahim explained that the “twinning formula” is a political party policy that reserves positions like vice president, deputy governor, and deputy chairman exclusively for women. She argued that the policy does not require any national legislation and is a simpler solution than the “Special Seats Bill.”

She cited countries like The Gambia, Namibia, and Rwanda, where this formula has successfully increased female representation.

Ibrahim urged the APC to champion the cause, noting that if the ruling party had already adopted the formula, there would be 24 female deputy governors in the states it controls.

She also pledged to use her role as the Deputy National Secretary of the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) to spread this policy to all political parties in the country.
