A 27-year-old chicken seller, identified as Alozie John, has allegedly attempted to take his own life due to a debt of ₦1.2 million owed to his livestock supplier. The incident occurred in Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, reported that Alozie, originally from Isielu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State but residing in Umunnachi, consumed a poisonous substance in a desperate bid to end his life.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that On August 23, 2024, the Anambra State Police intervened after receiving information about Alozie’s distress. He was rescued, provided with medical assistance, and placed in safe custody for monitoring.
The police spokesperson revealed that Alozie’s intentions were discovered through an intercepted WhatsApp message, in which he expressed his plans to commit suicide due to his financial troubles.
Despite ingesting the harmful chemical, he did not experience the intended effects immediately.
