Commotion Erupts As LASU Students Protest Fees Hike

Unrest broke out at Lagos State University after students protested against rising tuition fees.
On Friday, the students requested that the old fees be reversed in two weeks.
Based on a report, the students have indicated that they have been seriously affected since the fee increased and therefore, all relevant authorities within and beyond the university were consulted to update a write-back of fees but so far, no positive results have been achieved.
They identified the people they discussed with that includes the management team led by the outgoing vice-chancellor, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Education, Mr Wahab Tokunbo and the Chairman, Lagos House Committee on Education, Mr Olayinka Ogundimu among others.
LASU on Friday, December 11, announced higher tuition fees from N25,000 to N67, 048.50. (resulting in an increase of 168 percent) and applies only to new students and those who will be accepted thereafter.,  EKO HOT BLOG   gathered.
However, students under the auspices of the Government of the Union of Students and in a communiqué signed by their President AbdulBasit Ashade and Public Relations Officer, Zeenab Adams, states that the union is primarily concerned about members’ well-being and would continue to plan the same for actualization in a peaceful way.
They promised that the union would do everything to make sure that the fee increment was properly reviewed because these are very difficult times in the country. “we need to be sensitive not to add to this burden on the natives and residents of Lagos State.”
The union, then, says. “The payment of tuition fees by newly admitted students should be suspended and the payment portal closed until all sides reach a common resolution as well as the directive from the Students’ Union to continue paying their tuition fees.”
